An important consideration is the pH of the water that
contains the nutrients because this affects how well the
nutrients are absorbed by the plants. For the soil-based
system, the pH should be between 6.5 and 7. However, for the
hydroponics system, the pH should be within 5.8 to 6.8. It is
advisable to have a precise method for determining pH because
the pH scale is logarithmic and slight changes in value have
substantial effects.
Meanwhile, you will also have to choose the kind of growing
medium because this provides physical support for the roots.
These include soil, rockwool, hydroton, coco and soil-less
combinations. Your choice will depend on your preference and
the kind of system that is used for delivering the
nutrients.
The kind of lighting is another vital factor in the setup of
the grow room. High intensity discharge (HID) lighting systems
are often used for this kind of setup but these have
disadvantages such as complicated wirings, high consumption of
electric power and the production of too much heat.
There are two types of HID lighting and these are the metal
halide (MH) system for plants in the growth stage and the high
pressure sodium (HDS) system for the flowering stage.
Oftentimes LED lighting may be used to replace the HDS lights.
Meanwhile T5 fluorescent lighting can be used instead of MH
lighting during vegetative growth.
Finally, there
is the need to provide the proper environment for your
indoor garden. This has to do with air circulation,
temperature, humidity and temperature. You will need to
control these factors to provide the best environment for
the growing plants. For example, you can enrich the air
going to the plants with carbon dioxide to accelerate
growth. However, remember that more carbon dioxide means
that the plants will also need more nutrients.
